The Sela Chau gongs are real masterpieces, handmade in China from a special bronze alloy. They are available in sizes of 20, 24, 28, 32 and 36 inches. The larger the model, the deeper and also more voluminous the sound when struck. Included with each model is a maple mallet with a plastic head with velvet cover and a zippered carrying case.

The Sela Chau Gong Standard has a traditional shape with a rim that curves backwards. It is untreated on the outer rim and in the middle and turned on the surface in between - this creates the characteristic look with the shimmering, matt-gold surface.

Gongs are an integral part of many cultures around the world and produce soothing, long-lasting, esoteric sounds. Depending on how hard, where and with what the Sela Chau gong is struck, different frequency ranges come to the fore. It can be played in a much more versatile way than it might seem at first.

Because of their relaxing effect, gongs are used in meditation and sound therapy, among other things, as their vibrations penetrate the whole body. But percussionists also like to use a gong as a special effect in musical and orchestral contexts.
